Websites 101 – The Building Blocks for Creating a Great Online Presence
“Go to my website.” You shrug your shoulders and look away cringing as you speak the words to your client. “It’s www.MyCompany.com…”

Ever feel like this?  Or maybe your story is more along the lines of:

“Do you have a website?” the potential client eagerly asks.  “ah.. noooo… um, just getting a web developer to fix it… should be ready sometime…”

OK, that’s enough!  No. More. Excuses!

After only 1.5 hours, you will leave Websites 101 armed with valuable information you need to know in order to have a piece of real estate on the Internet that you can be proud of, and that search engines and clients will be guaranteed to find!  The key to creating a good website, is creating good content.  The key to creating a great website, is great content. But creating and organizing content is harder than it seems to newbies…  The content gathering and creation skills discussed in class will be beneficial to both aspiring web developers and those of you who want to hire a developer.  Either way, the first steps are all in your hands: choosing your .com, purchasing hosting, writing your company’s verbage and organizing your pictures.  Breathe life into your website, and prepare yourself with the knowledge to Keep it Alive!

Keywords covered in this class:

-          What is a Domain?  Picking a GOOD domain
-          What is Hosting? Finding a great hosting provider

Web 2.0 – Get Found on the Internet!
Eyes these days are turning to the Internet as their main source of reference.  You’ve probably heard at least one of these sayings before: “Just Google it” or “I typed my symptoms into WebMD…” maybe someone told you they just ‘Tweeted’ something, or you just met someone, you want to get in touch again but you gotta run and the person says: “Facebook Me!”  If you’ve experienced any of these Web 2.0 phenomenons, then you realize that people are relying heavily on the internet as a resource – so you better make sure your business can be found!

In this 1.5 hour class, I will teach how to use social media platforms effectively to increase the flow of your online traffic.  I will also go over why blogs, when used with proper branding techniques, are an extremely cost effective and strategically powerful marketing tool for targeting your niche.

The one message you are going to take away from this class: It is important to continually update your online presence… and it can be so easy!

The following class will be available on Monday August 30th, 2010 for $150 as part of the Masters Series of classes offered by Bodyssey.

Master Class – Planning, Creating and Maintaining an Awesome Website
Think of the Internet as an unlimited supply of Real Estate.  Location, Location, Location… right?  Well start thinking Domain, Domain, Domain!  Everyone can purchase the same amount of real estate, for the same price, so avoid the most common pitfall – having your website end up functioning like a billboard in outer space!   As part of your online marketing strategy, focusing on the success of your business is dependant on your efforts in driving more traffic, gather fans, and communicating effectively with your public.

This 6 hour class will expand on the content from the Websites 101 and 2.0 classes allowing us to dive deeper into organizing content with consistent and solid branding.

Sharing Bonus!  In class I will overview/review/critique your website in class – we will be able to learn from each other.  In addition, we will also take a look at each other’s websites, offering a quick overview of branding, layout and design, categories, and the content itself.  Reviewing our peers websites will also be a productive exercise to showcase and determine the common needs artistic entrepreneurs have to keep in mind when developing an efficient website.

Time will also be spent on setting up strategic social networking platforms such as Facebook Fan Pages and reviewing the types of content that are most appropriate to add on Social networking Platforms.

The largest return you can make on your real estate investment is by setting up a blog – blogging doesn’t have to be about mowing your lawn or getting a coffee and letting all your friends know about it.  Blogs are essential business marketing tools. In this class, I will go over creative content ideas, to drive traffic that you otherwise would never get!   I will review some of the more popular blogging platforms with a focus on WordPress.

Time will also be spent on analyzing website statistics – how to access and read your stats and an overview of the next powerful step in statistics: Google Analytics.  Understanding your web stats gives you a glimpse into the human activity on your website.  It is an essential business tool that will educate you about your target market and current audience.

There will also be two open Q&A sessions right before lunch break and at the end of class.

If you plan on attending my class, please drop me a note and introduce yourself online!
If you have a laptop, bring it along (with an extension cord) to class to take notes and work from example.

PS – this class is developed for students who realize that websites are living breathing entities, it is 100% your voice on the internet.  Entrepreneurs who take this class, are prepared to give their website the care and attention it needs to grow and flourish.
